Summary of all common questions on general subjects, courses and grades, graduation, academic status, integrity of examinations and etc.

Terms for using the website

As in any large system it can happen sometimes and for this (among other things) there are reception hours of the dean. We will do what is necessary to rectify the injustice, if it was done.

The decision is of course personal. In our opinion, the studies are hard enough, and adding work may create unreasonable pressure. Our recommendation – if possible, postpone the work for after graduation.

If you’ve already approached the unit for the advancement of students for help and advice, all we need to know is that you have consulted with them. If you have not yet, it’s time to do so.

The faculty holds a forum where discussions are made twice a year with industry leaders who give us feedback about the curriculum (in the past changes have been made as a result of these meetings). However, it is not correct to say that we “adapt” the curriculum to all industry needs. The changes and adjustments are made for purposes that are clearly long-term.

There is no need to study “Random Signals” again as a part of the communication chain. However, in order for the total amount of courses in the chain to be kept, another course in the chain must be taken instead.

All is well! Courses registration may be canceled by the end of the degree and will not be considered. Beyond that – planning the studies’ timetable and keeping to the dates of registration and changes are your own responsibility and can not be exceeded.

Sorry – no such date exists. There is a special date for students who served quite a bit in reserves (Miluim) and only for them. If you have not been able to reach the first or the second date,  you can register again and be tested the next semester.

Planning your studies timetable is your responsibility alone. Beyond that, we have a team of consultants who will gladly help ahead of time. There is no need to cancel a course, because re-registering the following semester will cancel it’s validity during the current one (if you are in your first semester, there different rules – please see to the secretary office).

It is not recommended, but yes. The upper limit is 29 points per semester (beyond that is not possible).

We do not take into consideration the grade of a late semester, but only of the original semester (there are students who can not afford the luxury of studying again and staying in the Technion beyond four years).

The exams’ schedule is suitable for most students – those who study according to the recommended studies timetable. In addition, a representative of the Academic Committee of the Faculty goes over the exams’ schedule. If you have a collision then probably your personal studies timetable is unique. For example, it might contain courses that are not from the same semester according to the recommended studies timetable, or courses listed in the catalog, one of which is the predecessor of the other.

A student who wishes to end his / her studies is asked to use the computerized system to examine the graduation requirements.
Instructions for using the system: On the Welcome screen, you must identify yourself with the standard ID and password from the registration system for the courses. Under the Help button, in the user guide, you can find a detailed explanation for using the system. An email can be sent for any problem or malfunction by pressing the “Comments / Faults” button. In order for the treatment to be effective, an identity number must be attached to each application.

The student is solely responsible for meeting the graduation requirements. Of course, if necessary, you can contact the secretariat for advice and guidance. We recommend that you check your requirements for the semester before graduation to avoid surprises. Exceptional requests at the time of graduation will most likely be answered in the negative.

Absolutely. Each student in the faculty can follow the graduation requirements throughout the course of studies by using the above system.

A student will be in an improper academic status if one or more of the following applies:

  • The weighted arithmetic mean of the student’s grades is less than 65.
  • The success rate of exams the student took is less than 66%.
  • The student was in an improper academic status in the previous semester, and did not fulfill the personal studies timetable determined for that semester.
  • The student did not fulfill the Physics classification requirements on time.
  • The student did not fulfill the English level requirements by the fourth semester.
  • The student did not fulfill the Hebrew level requirements by the second semester.
  • The student accumulated less than 27 points during the first two semesters out of the total number of points in the recommended studies timetable.

 

We recommend approaching the unit for the advancement of students or the Deputy Dean’s office for counseling and guidance. Usually this situation is created by not knowing how to study and how to prepare for exams (which differs a lot from high school). For example, a way to handle the load of the exams is to start going over the study materials during the last 3 weeks of the semester and to summarize it. It is also easier to get a hold of the courses’ staff members at that time.
The first year is crucial for adapting to this new way of learning – take the time to do that and you will find you have more time during the next 3 years of studying.

 

A student in a proper academic status, who decides to pause the studies, can request to return to it. A student whose studies were paused can also request to return to it, two years after the pause had taken place. Those requests will be discussed by the academic unit which will determine a required studies timetable to complete the degree. The unit’s recommendation will be brought to the Dean of Undergraduate Studies who will make the final decision.

A student whose studies were paused, who requests to return to study in the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, will most likely receive a one semester studies timetable of 17 points, which will have to be completed in one semester in external studies with an average of 75 or more. Only two grade corrections will be counted for this average. If the student will be accepted, than out of all completed courses, those with a grade of 65 or more will be counted.
A student who completed courses in external studies with a grade of 75 or more can request for it to be counted for the degree.

The people you should approach in this order for filing an academic complaint:

  1. Undergraduate Secretariat – will direct the the complaint to the appropriate authority in the faculty.
  2. Dean of the faculty.
  3. Dean of Undergraduate Studies.
  4. Student Ombudsman.

Fortunately, students (with few exceptions) complete their exams fairly, without cheating. We relentlessly take every measure in our power to remove from the Technion those few who choose to cheat. Whoever is caught in this act, will not be accepted to higher degrees.
